Hackney Ark and the Superhero Series

Just a short distance from Finsbury Park is Hackney Ark, a specialist NHS center that provides vital, integrated support for children and young people with disabilities and special educational needs.Every year, the center's children’s physiotherapy team fundraises to take these young people and their families to the Superhero Series in Windsor—the UK’s only sports series dedicated entirely to people with disabilities.I’ve had the privilege of photographing the event for the past few years, and it is a genuinely moving day to witness. The children and families take on personal challenges that push their limits, and seeing them achieve these milestones together is incredible. What stays with you longest is the sheer determination of the young people, the unwavering support of their families, and the childrens physiotherapists and staff who spend the day running alongside them to get everyone across the finish line.

The Superhero Series isn't about competition or winning; it’s about fun, participation, and showing these children what they are truly capable of, rather than focusing on any limitations.Watching this NHS team pull this together year after year is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when people care deeply about the community they serve. If you’d like to help them make it to the starting line again this year, you can donate here:
